Troubleshooting • Raspberry Pi4 B Firmware Downgrade with a USB issue

Hi everyone. Let me introduce myself, I am Fernando, I am 44 years old and for years I have been providing technical assistance on Windows PC systems.
I recently purchased two Raspberry Pi4 B 4GB to run Retropie with Emulation Station.
The two Raspberries have one firmware dated 3 September 2020 with bootloader C305221a while the other has been updated with the Raspberry tool to the latest firmware available. Now it happens that the same image on a Raspberry (the one with dated firmware) works perfectly while on the updated one it gives an incompatibility error on startup on the start4.elf file. Looking around the various Retropie forums, the proposed solution would be to replace the
mentioned and the fixup4.dat file in the startup directory of the SD Card with the updated ones indicated at this link:

https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware ... aster/boot

By doing this I actually get Retropie to start without any errors during the loading phase but when I reach the Joystick configuration screen I no longer see the Joystick but only the keyboard. By moving the same image where the two mentioned files were replaced on the Raspberry with the older firmware I obtain the same behavior. I load Retropie but from the USB I no longer have any signs of life even though both the keyboard and the joystick are turned on but when I press the keys I get no response. I deduce that the replacement of the two files somehow influences the correct functioning of the USBs which previously worked correctly on the older Raspberry but prevented Retropie from starting on the new one with the request of update the firmware.
Not having any skills on the Linux front, command lines from Linux shells and other like this, the only apparently most accessible solution would seem to me be to downgrade the firmware on the one where the update was unfortunately performed to the same one as the Raspberry on which Retropie works without any problem.

I would also have found the corresponding firmware at this link:

https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/ ... c24989a33f

Unfortunately I have no idea how to manually load it onto the SD Card and have it flash again.

What do you think? Is it possible that those two files, once replaced while still allowing Retropie to start, create a problem with USB operation even on the Raspberry with older firmware (therefore on both)?

How can I get out of it?
