Many microcontrollers have on-chip comparators, fixed voltage references, a DAC which can also provide variable reference voltages, plus more comprehensive analogue input selection circuitry to make those useful.If you need a precision trigger at a very specific voltage point, you need a comparator with suitable specs. plus a precision reference voltage.
I was rather surprised the RP2040 was so limited in its analogue capabilities. We will have to wait and see if the RP235X offers any improvement in analogue capabilities. Fingers crossed.
