@bugsworstnightmare @6by9 - trawling the forums I can see the considerable amount of time and effort you guys have put into this topic to date - it's massive - so thank you for all your efforts past and current. Sadly like U2 - I still haven't found what I'm looking for.. I couldn't agree more that vendors need to provide better support for their products! Very few do.
What is becoming apparent is that there are a number of paths one could go down. Mipi-dbi-spi does look like a prime candidate for the display as it includes the driver for the LCD controller st7789v. The touch controller CST328 not so sure?
Creating an overlay is clearly not for the faint hearted and sadly way beyond my capabilities. My Worzle head is Management these days and before that it was a hardware not software head - we contract out all our development work these days, otherwise I would jump onto this and get it done.
I would be willing to fund it though, if anyone would care to take it on? I know 6by9 doesn't - so not asking but if either of you know someone who might be interested I 'd appreciate a contact by PM.
In hindsight I guess I should have approached this from the kernel driver and current overlay position rather than finding hardware first and then looking for matching kernel support and overlays. We want to be able to recommend a reputable vendor with ample stock of an affordable 2.4 or 2.8 inch LCD display (with and without touch) that will work with Pi4 and Pi5 using current mainstream kernel drivers - with no more than a few additional lines to config.txt. If either of you know any LCD displays that fit that bill please let me know and Ill be more than happy to check them out and post results here.
