When an older PI4b died and I bought a replacement, it wouldn't boot from the old uSD which had buster on it.
Hence I was forced to install bookworm. I don't recall at first boot whether I chose Xwindows of wayland but I do know my ~/xsession file is ignored so I suspect I'm running wayland. I've been too busy trying to get this new system running the way I want rather than the way someone far away wants to take the time to explore that.
Is there something on the desktop to tellme whether I'm running Xwindows or wayland? Never mind.
I see ~/.config/lxterminal/lxterminal.conf is dated today while ~/.config/wayfire.ini is dated 3 Dec. so I must be under X.
That might explain why I don't see the same thing you do under Preferences/Appearance Settings.
If you don't mind I'm still curious what the names of the light and dark themes are.
If it's too much trouble, that's OK.
You found the solution to my problem and I'm grateful.
Merry Christmas,
Mike
