Troubleshooting • Need Help: Raspberry Pi 5 Sparked and Now Won’t Boot

Hi everyone,

I recently encountered an issue with my new Raspberry Pi 5 (8GB model) and could really use some insights from this knowledgeable community.

After a few initial hiccups with performance, which included some unexpected slowness and glitches, I was in the process of setting up my Pi for some educational experimentation. That's when I ran into a bigger problem — during a boot-up attempt, I noticed a small spark near the power management IC, and immediately after, the Pi failed to boot up. Now, when I connect the power, only the red light comes on, and there’s no activity from the green LED at all.

Here's what I've tried so far:

- Using a known good SD card
- Stripping down to a minimal boot setup
- Visual inspection for any obvious damage (none found)
- Double-checking all connections

I wanted to reach out to you all before delving deeper into more technical troubleshooting steps. I haven’t done anything particularly risky with it, such as overclocking, before this incident occurred. I'm pretty stumped and would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions you could offer on what my next steps should be.

Thank you in advance for your time and help!

Best,
Arav
