Well, it looks like Buster isn't even an option for my Raspberry Pi 4B.

I installed Buster using the super-helpful and user-friendly Raspberry Pi Imager app,
and then when I tried to boot the Pi off of it, I got the message:

start4.elf: is not compatibleThis board requires newer softwareGet the latest software from https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/

So, it looks like it's Bookworm or nothing! Image may be NSFW.

Not that I'd recommend it, but you might be able to run Buster if you update the boot files with ones from Bookworm. I did this with a Wheezy (even older) system that I moved from a Pi 2B to a Pi 4B. I also upgraded the kernel and modules, but I couldn't go for the latest for some reason.
