Did you check the specification for any advice https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/user-manual/UM11732.pdf ?
For longer connections (let's say 0.5m) you should use shielded cables. Do the test with a cheap audio codec https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/dac-pro/ and if still in doubts don't do it at all.
Show the spec were it states there might be no cable inbetween, just the header! What if you use stacking headers? Will it still work?
What if you use a board like https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/qw ... -guide/all in between? Will it still work?
