shouldn't that be Bookworm? Please report back if you're on Bullseye or Bookworm...
I installed Bullseye with desktop (2023-12-05) ..
Latest Bookworm (!) image should be able to bring some of the small displays up without issues, i.e. The 3.5in when using 'dtoverlay=piscreen, drm'.
Sorry, but I'm not looking into the old drivers/overlays as I'm more interrested in using another tinydrm driver: mipi-dbi-spi.
Using that one I was able to run 4 different displays (see here for an explanation of what's needed viewtopic.php?t=358240#p2165638). Display controller doesn't matter as long it is mipi-dbi compliant.
So far I did not manage to get a 3.5in ILI9488 (which is quite similiar to ILI9486) based display to work with that driver! I still expect my initialization command sequence is wrong but might be another incompatibility (as the 86/88 seems to have some bug) though.
Also note that 6by9 is also working on this but follows a different approach viewtopic.php?t=358240#p2165720
