The Raspberry Pi 5's on Ebay are actually the real product.EBay has turned into a sucky pit of lies and scams when it comes to any new/high demand item. There are always going to be leaks from any controlled launch, but I suspect that many either are lying about the quantity they actually have or are doing the order pass through scheme. As to how many eBay sellers actually have Pi 5 to ship is hard to tell. Some may simply be scamming, not planning to ship anything, others won't be shipping until they have actually bought the Pi 5 they pretended to have. That some claim to have sold hundreds doesn't mean they really have; they could be buying from themselves. Caveat emptor.
In all honesty, I find it very frustrating that these are being sold on Ebay twice or triple the price.
Back in early October, i rushed to sparkfun.com to try and pick one of these up but it was on pre-order. Same on Adafruit, Digikey and
pretty much everywhere.
I decided to place an order on Mouser.com but as the months advanced they also modified the dates in delay.
Last week i cancelled my order with mouser and I bought one on Ebay and I just received it today.
reason is that it's a Christmas present thus i couldn't wait any longer.
It's brand new, boxed, sealed and it looks like the seller had purchased a bulk from Adafruit
It's just frustrating that i had to pay twice the price. I know it's all money making at the end of the day but
these authorized sellers needs to do something about this by limiting the quantity to 3 per client when these devices are released
else we're always going to have to deal with this sort of nonsense, again and again.
