There are a lot of truly terrible mains extensions out there (UK), I often open them up to put different cables on them. Some use rivets to join the bus-bars together and the joints spin easily, some have leaf-spring connections in them, some use screws into plastic to join bus-bars which are far from tight etc etc. I'm amazed there aren't loads of fires. How can using a mains extension possibly cause such a problem? I'm surprised someone suggested it.
