I have SSH access, of course, but isn't it a separate display-less login session? I can't run commands via SSH and see the result on the monitor.
P. S. So far I couldn't find what the X11 vsync / page flipping API is called, but I suspect it does not work on the composite. Because VLC exhibits tearing, and Vsync in OpenGL does not work either (but it does work with HDMI out).
