Automation, sensing and robotics • Re: How to get reading from LDR Matrix

Seems to be some confusion between an LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) and an Ultrasonic sensor (40kHz and above sound waves).
What are we trying to measure?
Hey,

I’m trying to measure whether there is something on top of the sensor. For an LDR, it would be lack of light, or ultrasonic sensor which would measure how far away the closest object is.

This is for a chess board which would have a bunch of LDRs underneath the pieces, and would get the position change from LDR change in light levels etc.
You could use a camera.

Probably the most common technique for this is a reed switch at each square location, and a magnet in the base of the piece.
