Seeking help / advice / recommendations for a recently acquired Pi 5 running latest 64bit bookwork. Trying to get this Pi 5 set up as a home media server with CasaOS and Plex. I can't even set up my Plex libraries before the entire Pi5 locks up and freezes completely (mouse and everything) requiring a forced reboot. Using the watch command, it looks like the Pi is clocking at full 2.4GHZ speed when doing any kind of data transferring over the network or through the drives. It does not appear to be getting super hot however. My unit will not overclock. I have:
-appropriate 47W / (5.1V) charging device, confirmed via terminal that the Pi 5 is actually getting 5.1V.
-proper cooling
-sandisk Extreme 512GB SD Card, verified health via Pi Diagnostics tool
-4TB External drive formatted in ext4 and mounted properly
-wireless USB keyboard (also connected via bluetooth as I need to switch to bluetooth when everything is bogged down)
-wireless USB mouse
-the hard drive and keyboard are plugged into a powered USB hub that is connected to the Pi via USB 3.0. The mouse is connected directly into the Pi 5
-I boot to the SD card
I notice as soon as I plug in and mount my external drive the entire OS becomes bogged down. The mouse and keyboard become slow and run at about 50%. I have to switch the keyboard over to bluetooth to even get anything typed into terminal.
Simply moving and copying files in CasaOS is locking the Pi up and the entire system will eventually freeze. CasaOS will lose connection first then complete system lock up. I try to connect via CasaOS and SSH from another computer and no response. I feel I may just have a lemon. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
