Official Display • Official Display not functioning on Pi 5

I have two official 7" displays neither of which will generate an image when connected to a Pi 5 but do display an image if I connect them to Pi 4's and I have exhausted my troubleshooting knowledge. I've tried different cables, dedicated power supply for the monitor only.
I can remote into the Pi 5 via ssh and VNC with VNC showing one of the desktop images.
I just connected an HDMI monitor and it works fine.

When I have the adapter type ribbon cable ONLY, attached to the Pi5 and go to Preference-->Screen Configuration it says NOOP-1 which I take to NO OP-1 but whatever it stands for, I don't know.
Currently I have both the adapter ribbon cable connected AND the HDMI monitor an when I open Screen Configuration I get an image which almost looks as if it thinks I have a dual monitor setup. It has assigned the HDMI monitor as the right but while it is assigning something to the left, it is unable to identify what the object on the ribbon cable is so it appears as a grey rectangle. I have taken screen shots of Screen Configuration with and without the HDMI monitor connected. I have attached the two screenshots.

In my search for a solution one suggestion was to comment out the line below, which I did. That killed the VNC image so I went back in via ssh and uncommented the line and the VNC image returned. I do not remember the other suggestion but the result was the same. I lost the VNC desktop image and had to undo it via ssh.
