...Unfortunately unless I can get a network connection, I will not be able to save some python files and shell scripts by fileziall'ing them to my PC. (Yep, should have done that long ago.)

Use a new SD Card
Install Bookworm
Test that gives you a network connection (sorry I do not know the adapter you are using)
Pop the original SD Card into an adapter and put it in the Pi

You should then be able to access it

Then count your blessings and remember 3:2:1 backups in future (3 copies / 2 media types / 1 off-site) are a good starting point.
