A common new method is to use the webbrowser.
We* use that here, the basics are flashed over, then the terminal is used to securely present the WiFi etc as needed

This method has replace the esptool in many places, Home Assistant now is this too for instance.

P.S. Your personal github link is adding a full stop at the end so we get 404, easy enough to find the project though.
