I'm glad to bring some good news regarding this issue. My name is Nicholas, and I am the current technician working at PiShop (South Africa). I have been in contact with JP regarding this issue, and just seen Werner's support ticket regarding the exact same problem.
First off, the good news:
I can consistently reproduce this issue and have determined the cause.
The bad news:
Waveshare has some problems to fix. Their black FPC (CSI) connectors for Pi 5 are the cause of this problem. (https://www.pishop.co.za/store/black-cs ... egory_id=0)
In my testing, I've found the official orange CSI cables (For Pi 5 and Pi Zero) work perfectly fine across multiple GS cameras on the same Pi 5 (With latest updates both package/software and firmware). The issue immediately comes to light once you connect the camera using Waveshare's FPC cable (Which produces the rainbow colours that you have reported). I will be in contact with them to hopefully fix this issue, and I'm quite honestly surprised that nobody has previously reported this problem.
We have processed the replacement cables (this time official CSI cables) and shipped them out today; both for JP and for Werner. Thanks to everyone who has contributed time to help with this problem.
