Python • Re: Python and FTP not working

As a total python beginner with zero experience, I'm trying to make a script that takes a photo with the camera module V2 every x minutes and then uploads it to FTP.

Has someone else mandated the use of FTP?

Is the upload going to be to a machine that you administer, on your own private LAN?

Because FTP is largely deprecated for use over the public Global Internet because of its insecurity.

Unless you absolutely HAVE to use 'classic' FTP it would probably be better use of your time to find an alternative solution now, in preference to battling with FTP and then finding later that you have hit a brick wall.
The upload is on a remote machine. I'm a chemist in a tiny tiny company and this is a project where I want to "monitor"** chemical reactions (at night) by taking photos of it at fixed intervals. When I want to see some results in the evening already I want to access the files at home, but the network we use as company is in a shared building where we rent laboratory space. In that building, each company has its own virtual LAN and it is impossible to access the pi from outside (with ssh for example). So that's why I need to have a way to upload the files. I don't want to receive an email with an attachment (photo) every 5 minutes. My boss asked the guys that manage our website (the hosting provider) and they set up a nice little ftp server for us where I can upload these photos to.

**Disclaimer: yes I know that just looking at a reaction is not actual monitoring (which requires actual measurements), but color change over night is something I would like to see (in addition to other chemistry techniques).
