OK, just found this out the hard way myself ![:D]( "Very Happy")
It appears the image "RPiSystem.png" is hard-coded somewhere!
So I tricked it! I copied my own image to /usr/share/rpd-wallpaper and called it RPiSystem.png (I made a copy of the original pi-greeter.conf file first of course). The image file I copied was a .jpg file but this didn't seem to worry it.
VOILA!! My own login screen background. Hope this helps.
