If the diagnostic screen shows edid is valid, why do you need to supply an edid from a file?
(Just to confirm, did it also report HPD=1?)
Can you remove any display specific settings from cmdline.txt.
Boot up and run (e.g. through ssh):and post the URL returned. That will help us understand what the display is detected as.
