thats why i would recommend using systemdProblem solved! In fact, CRON starts running the python script immediately - well before all services are running. I added a SLEEP(30) at the start of the program, but it still failed. Changed it to SLEEP(45), and still failed (on the STMP deamon). However, when there is a 60 second forced delay, all works. THANK YOU ALL!!
you can just declare that you depend on the smtp daemon, and systemd will wait until smtp is started
