1 GB? I can run stuff in a Zero 2 with 0.5 GB if careful to run one thing at a time. Things like replacing Firefox with Epiphany or Netsurf. Disable or remove bluetooth.
Install desktop. Boot. Configure. Backup to another microSD card.
Delete something. Test. Reboot. Test. Backup to another microSD card.
Repeat.
With Bluetooth and similar, you have choices. 1/ Switch off in GUI. 2/ Disable in boot. 3/ Delete the packages. Disable and delete reduce memory usage and boot time slightly.
Use the command blame to find out the things consuming time in the boot. There are commands to list the packages running. You can experiment with deleting anything. Just include a reboot in the middle of the testing to make sure the deleted package is not in use.
So the next question is: What do you want to run?
