What packages need to be installed to use OpenVPN as a client on Raspberry Pi OS bookworm?

I tried adding:

openvpn
openvpn-systemd-resolved
network-manager-openvpn
network-manager-openvpn-gnome
openvpn-dco-dkms

openvpn-dco-dkms wouldn't install probably not the right version for the default kernel.

This got me as far as being able to use the Advanced Options -> Add a VPN connection and load up my VPN providers config file but the VPN connection wont start.

I can manually start openvpn with my VPN providers config file from the command line and it seems to work, but it doesn't switch to the correct DNS servers automatically.

What as I missing here?

All this stuff just worked on my Ubuntu AMD laptop.
