Off topic discussion • Re: Dream hardware

Tried my USB3/SATA/SSD

Code:

hdparm -t /dev/sda/dev/sda: Timing buffered disk reads: 574 MB in  3.14 seconds = 183.08 MB/sec
Looks like NMVe is more than twice as fast.
I guess I know what my next upgrade is going to be. Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
:D
Gen 3 is not officially supported, but my Samsung 990 Pro 1TB disk on the Pi5 gives:

Code:

$ sudo hdparm -t /dev/nvme0n1p2/dev/nvme0n1p2: Timing buffered disk reads: 2626 MB in  3.00 seconds = 874.81 MB/sec
As people have said, the disk can go a lot faster (Gen 5 or 6 - I cant remember) but even so its a good improvement over USB3 or SD cards.
