Beginners • Static IP not recognized by Raspberry Pi 5

I already own two Pi 4s at home and have managed to successfully set static IPs for both of them however I recently got my hands on a Pi 5 and am struggling to set a static IP for it.

I’ve pretty much followed the exact same steps I did to set a static IP for my Pi 4s and for some reason it just won’t work. I’ve also updated the Pi 5 to all the latest packages too.

One thing I did notice was that the /etc/dhcpcd.conf file on the Pi 5 was empty compared to the one on the Pi 4 when I first opened it and it had instructions in comments.

My Router IP and DNS server is 192.168.1.254 and the static IP I want to set is 192.168.1.59. It’s outside of my router’s DHCP pool and should work (no other devices on my network have that specific IP address). I’ve also tried other IP addresses outside the DHCP pool with no success. Every time I boot up my Pi it defaults to 192.168.1.86 (which is inside the DHCP pool of my router). Is there a setting I forgot to toggle or something I forgot to do? Thanks.
